Without Looking Back
"Are you happy," he asked
And she smiled softly at him
Knowing without a doubt
How much her answer meant to him
"I miss you,"
he said
And she saw the
tears in his eyes
They didn't hurt
her
Not like they
used to
She can't say she's sorry
She wants him to be sorry
He can't move her
Not the way he did seasons past
"Please come
home," he begged
But they both
know she can't
The words cried
in anger
Cannot be taken
back
He gently touches her face
She doesn't react the same way
It hurts him to see her, she knows
She, too, knows something of pain
She feels him
tremble slightly
Knowing this
is the very end
She places a
gentle kiss on his forehead
And moves on
without looking back.
